I could begin this week's blog as usual but this week has been anything but usual, I should have known something good was on the way by the sky Monday morning. Not me I had to think about dealing with a situation of the heart that was going to hurt more than I wanted to but to my surprise it came out to my good.
The Sky Monday Morning
That Monday I saw two trains the Q352 and the R331 before I had to go to work while I left work it was cloudy and things seemed less than promising for me but I was about to experience a lot of unexpected sunshine but before we move on here is the R331 under a great morning sky.

After that I spent Tuesday morning in one of my usual spots but nothing was moving on the CSX so I received a phone call to meet a friend and we chased the Wheeling rock train to some new spots where I had the chance to photograph it while they pulled out to clear the turnout to shove up the interchange.

The Rest of the day after work was spent chasing trains the first was the K143 in perfect sun and a new location for me.

Next was a few eastbounds then the Q015 and then I heard a inspection gang working in the area where I began make my way back to the spot Where I caught the K train and to my surprise I caught the Q353 passing the workers and in my opinion it was one of the most fun shots I ever had the opportunity to take.

The final one that wrapped up my day was the D750 and I got a great horn show from them as usual. I spent Wednesday doing yard work and Thursday was cloudy and I had to work over, After work I had a killer headache but was able to catch Q016 as a treat for a long day.

Friday was a rinse and repeat of Tuesday and that morning began much like that with me and my buddy making the chase again. But first here is them bringing in the Bluejay unit to tie in on the Rock train.

While I saw most of the same trains I shot some different Spots Here is Q137 with my city skyline in the background.
In the heart of the city
After I saw my usual fill of trains I heard on the scanner the Cuyahoga valley coming in to the station on my way down I was caught by the Wheeling crew moving the rock train out knowing they were on the way out of town I scooted into position and shot a video of them making a Great way to wrap up a week of trains and yesterday was spent making plans for me to do some photo work other than trains another unexpected blessing. As I close I will leave you with the video of the rock train and some food for thought as well. This week proved to be a great week while I did not expect things to change I had to remember that God controls the clouds as well as the sun, and sometimes when we think the rain will never end, when the storms of life rise up and rock the boat remember this, the storms and clouds have to obey him and this goes for the ones in our life as well he can make the sun pop out of nowhere just like he did for me this week. Remember God is still in control and until next time take care.
I know it has been a while since my last post, to be honest with you I just have been busy with work and other things that has kept me from the tracks. During my unwanted sabbatical I managed to get a few minutes in with the trains. The first being when I went on a fishing trip with our family ( this was a wanted trip by the way, not to be included in the unwanted sabbatical) during that trip we crossed a set of tracks belonging to the Wheeling and Lake Erie and I heard a train on the scanner as we packed up to head home. I figured that the train would be by us by the time we got to the crossing, but that would prove me wrong as I approached the crossing I looked out the window and saw the train about a quarter of a mile away. Stopping the van on the other side of the tracks I grabbed my camera and ran back toward the tracks (this has been a little easier since I have been walking and losing some poundage) with only se...
Over the years I have had enjoyed the hobby of trains and over the past couple of years I have taken more interest in the photography of trains. While this hobby is rewarding and has afforded me a few opportunities it has many hidden dangers I will be cover in this two part series called it never hurts. While I can relate to some of the railfans wanting to get the shot, or if you are a photography person creating the epic shots or trying to please the clients request or demands you could be putting yourself at danger and you might not know you are. The first thing I want to cover is the railfan end of the spectrum many of times we see the no trespassing signs near grade crossings or on trestles and there is a reason they are there, It isn't because the railroad hates railfans but it is because it mainly is to protect them and you from the dangers that maybe around. Well I am safe or nothing ever happens you may or you say I know wha...
To say the least the past couple of weeks have not been my favorite, in my last blog I talked about how my new year was off to a great start and how I expected great weather, well my friends that just has not happened yet. Almost every day this month including my birthday it has rained, only the first week in Jan did we have some snow and very little did we have, before the nice heat wave that came along with this wet weather. Shooting in the rain in the winter months is a challenge in itself, low sun angle coupled with a thick cloud deck only adds to ones lighting sorrows. The only time the light is good is between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 the rest of the time it is too dark and having a lack of trains during suitable daylight hours creates its own problems. Along with this weather my work schedule has not been kind either to my passion and had lead to me being depressed and down. However today I p...
